The Researchers’ Night is an initiative of the European Commission.
Its aim is to bring scientists and the public together, and will take place simultaneously in several European countries, on 24th September 2010.
In order to provide researchers and the general public with an opportunity to meet and know each other, SettingTheStage II (Cientistas ao Palco II) brings together research centres, universities, a SME, a science museum and several theatre groups.
SettingTheStage II will develop a new series of theatre performances produced for Researchers’ Night 2010, designed to stimulate reflection, discussion and debate on topics related to researchers and their everyday lives: power and limits of their research, scientists' excitements and disappointments, decisions they face, impact of their research in society.
A range of interactive activities will complement the performances, including hands-on activities, speed-dating with scientists, exhibitions, open doors at museums, scientists bands, cafes scientifiques, and much more. There will also be several sports activities.
SettingTheStage II events will be organized in four Portuguese cities simultaneously: Porto, Coimbra, Lisboa and Olhão. In each city multiple spaces will be created where scientists and the public will be able to be face to face, discover each other, and improve their mutual understanding.
